Akiptan Inc. is committed to supporting the next generation of Native agriculture stewards and is pleased to offer our Okhíčhaŋye scholarship.

(pronounced O-KHI-CHAN-YE - which is the Lakota word for cultivation)

2024 SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Native American high school seniors pursuing a degree that will support the native agriculture industry are encouraged to apply.  Fifteen (15) scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,000.00 each. 

 

Award amount: $2,000.00 

Number of scholarships to be awarded: 15

Scholarship opens: January 3rd, 2024

Scholarship application closes: April 30th, 2024 at 4:00 pm MST

Notification of awards: Late April / Early May 2024

 

Eligibility: 

  1. Students must be Native American high school seniors graduating in the Spring of 2024 and attending college in the Fall of 2024. 

  2. Must be pursuing a degree that will be utilized within the agriculture industry. This can include but is not limited to animal science, agriculture business, agriculture economics, horticulture, etc. Please scroll down to see the list of ag degrees.

  3. Must submit Tribal citizenship documents or proof of descendancy of a federally or state-recognized American Indian tribe, Alaska Native Village or Native Hawaiin or Pacific Islander or descendant of Pacific Islander within the United States.

  4. Demonstrate a commitment to the Native agriculture community.

  3. Download the application and mail your application to the Akiptan office (address is provided in the packet). 

 

What you will need: 

  1. Completed Application

  2. Essay Questions (included in the application)  

  3. Two letters of recommendation - LOR Template

  4. Proof of Tribal Citizenship copy (CIB)

  5. Unofficial or official high school transcript copy 

  6. College/Tech School/ Vet School Official Acceptance Letter copy

  • Any degree that will be utilized in the agriculture industry

  • Business Management to be used in Agriculture

  • Agribusiness 

  • Agricultural Law

  • Agribusiness Management

  • Agriculture Economics

  • Agricultural Education

  • Agriculture Engineering

  • Agriculture Finance 

  • Agriculture chemicals

  • Horticulture

  • Marketing in Ag

  • Natural Resource Management

  • Range management

Important Note, the degree criteria is not limited to this list, you can be pursuing a degree in Business and have plans to work in the agriculture industry and you simply need to elaborate on that in your prompted essay.
